Communication Network Laboratory in Korea University is pursuing research on Optical Networks, High-speed data Networks, Mobile Networks. Many researchers from our lab have been working in various fields as since its founding 1989, and they have played an important role in each area. Communication Network Laboratory is mainly focusing on :

Communication Network Laboratory is studying From Home networks to Back-bone Networks widely and deeply.
Indoor wireless technology can provide a connection between digital TV, telephone, automatic control system, and any small devices in the houses. And also through the internet people who want to control the device in the house outside can access the home network whenever, wherever with best quality. For this service Communication Network Laboratory is researching on various wireless technologies such as Bluetooth, UWB, ZigBee, PNA, IEEE1394. Especially we are focusing on High-speed (100Mps) Indoor Communication Systems based on Infrared and indoor mobile networks to provide seamless roaming in the indoor wireless systems

Communication Network Laboratory is researching on Optical Networks based on WDM. We expect the future core networks is transparent seamless WDM networks and for that we are focusing on design of Multi-Granularity OXC (Optical Cross-Connect) network based on GMPLS (Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching) by IETF, and all-optical WDM packet transport networks. And moreover we are designing WDM network architecture for providing dynamic wavelength allocation based on flow-based routing

An access network is that part of a communications network which connects subscribers to their immediate service provider. As the requirement of broadband is increasing, 40 Mbps VDSL is spreading in the access networks. But when we think only one HDTV channel requires 27 Mbps, VDSL is not the right solution for broadband access networks. as a results the need of optical access network so called FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home) based on optical fiber is increasing. Especially, in Korea broadband wireless services such as Wibro, WCDMA, DMB, are ready to serve at the first time in the world, and this needs broadband wireless access network using WDM and BOD (Bandwidth on Demand). For this We are focusing on broadband wireless access network using optical fiber for providing mobility and QoS (Quality of Service)
